Our History

The Mimi Fishman Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 1999 by Miriam "Mimi" Fishman and David Shulman, was founded as a vehicle to raise funds for various charities. As of February 2008 the Foundation has raised money for The American Glaucoma Society, Colorado's Boulder County Safehouse, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Evangelical Children's Home, Healing the Children, Solace House, The Delta Gamma Center for Children With Visual Impairments, YMCA's Partners Program (which runs several summer camps for children living with Cancer, HIV/Aids, severe Asthma, or eye problems), Station Family Fund, Rock the Earth, Conscious Alliance, and Our Future Now. Please visit the Charity Bio's page for additional information about each charity, and why The Mimi Fishman Foundation chose to become involved with them.

Currently, there are three active volunteers in The Foundation, David Shulman, Julia Mordaunt, and Aaron Dietrich. We feel it important to mention that all work, time, and dedication to this Foundation is performed on a volunteer, and no-fee basis. There are no paid employees whatsoever - we instead perform these tasks out of our love for Mimi, and every person that benefits from what we do.

Mimi Fishman (mother of Jon Fishman, drummer for the band Phish) was diagnosed with glaucoma as a teenager. She spent many years educating the public regarding the value of testing for glaucoma at an early age, to give treatment a much better chance of having a positive affect rather than if the glaucoma developed at a later stage.

Over many years, Mimi had spread the word about glaucoma awareness by publicly speaking and educating audiences at various functions. More recently, through the creation of The Mimi Fishman Foundation, we've continued to spread the word.

We are sorry to share that Mimi passed away on Tuesday, January 16th, 2001. Her love for everyone will continue to flourish for years to come. She had such a positive attitude towards life and believed in the expressions of free thought and the opportunity of helping others. Mimi touched the heart and souls of many and is dearly missed.

State Of The Foundation

The Mimi Fishman Foundation will continue to raise both awareness, and funds, and make contributions, in the honor of Mimi, to organizations that will directly and significantly benefit others.

We are so pleased to announce that as of February 2008, the amount the Foundation as raised for charities exceeds $280,000.00!

Please keep your eyes on the What's New page for the latest "State of the Foundation"!

How Funds Are Raised

The Foundation utilizes a variety of fundraising techniques. One of our primary sources to raise funds is through our online charity auctions.

Past charity auctions have featured items from Phish, such as autographed posters, cd's, and tickets and after-show passes to various concerts and events. More recently, other bands have become involved, including String Cheese Incident, Yonder Mountain String Band, moe., Umphrey's McGee, and more.
